Vacationing in the Four Corners? Your visit will not be complete without a trip to view Newspaper Rock State Historic Park.

Newpaper Rock
This site is easily accessible and can be viewed and photographed at close range.

Newspaper Rock is one of the largest and best-known petroglyph panels in Utah. These petroglyphs are chipped into the sandstone and records 2,000 years of human activity in the area. It is about 12 miles west of U.S. Highway 191 between Monticello and Moab, on the paved road that leads to the Needles district of Canyonlands National Park. Don't miss this historical treat that is usually bypassed by travelers hurring elswhere. You would be missing one of the finest displays of Indian rock art to be found anywhere in the U.S.

According to the interpretive sign near the panel, the likely artists were prehistoric people of the Archaic, Basketmaker, Fremont or Pueblo cultures. Eventually the Navajo, Ute and early settlers added their own art to the rock.

Accomodations
There is a small campground nearby with no water.

A close place stay to Newspaper Rock is the Super 8 lodge in Monticello. It has an indoor pool and free breakfast. There are also other hotels and motels located in nearby Blanding and Moab.
